Newcastle United are bracing themselves for the disappointment of Kalvin Phillips.

Phillips has been on the fringes of Pep Guardiola’s plans again this season and is now prepared to leave Manchester City in January.

He is wary of losing his place in the England squad ahead of next summer’s European Championship and wants guaranteed regular football in the latter half of the season.

The midfielder is a target for Newcastle, who are looking to strengthen their injury-affected squad in the winter window.

But it has been claimed that Juventus are likely to be the destination for Phillips next month.

The Serie A giants have been tracking the England midfielder for a while and are now in talks with Manchester City over agreeing on a loan deal.

There are still issues to be sorted out before a deal can be agreed and there is more Premier League interest in Phillips as well.

However, the midfielder is likely to opt for a move to Turin over other options in the winter window.

With Paul Pogba and Nicol Fagioli suspended, Juventus are in pressing need of a midfielder in January.
