Russell Martin, manager of Saints, believes Norwich City defender Jack Stacey should have been sent off for a foul that injured Sam Edozie.
Saints extended their unbeaten run to 18 games with a 1-1 draw against Norwich at Carrow Road in the Championship.
Edozie was taken off the field after only 27 minutes of play after attempting to continue following a studs-up challenge by Stacey.
The former AFC Bournemouth and Luton Town player was booked by referee Darren England.
Martin’s side appeared to be on track for three points when Adam Armstrong converted from close range, but Norwich substitute Josh Sargent capped a brilliant move to equalize.
After the game, Martin stated, “It’s a red card, and we should have a penalty on Ryan Fraser as well.”
“It was one of the easiest games to referee, and he made it difficult.” I have nothing against refs, but this is a very horrible task.
“Refereeing is one of the most difficult jobs in the world, but I’m not sure.” The same is true for Ryan Manning, who is also fouled late.”
“It was in the box, but it’s a foul anywhere else on the field,” he said. I dislike chasing the referee for an answer because it is difficult for him to see late.
“It is a red card with VAR but it is really easy to say that – although, you don’t know with VAR do you?”
Martin admitted he didn’t know about Edozie’s illness, despite the fact that he had scored three goals in his previous five games prior to the visit to Carrow Road.
“His ankle has ballooned up,” he said, “but I can’t give you an estimate because it would be a complete guess.” We now have a few days off.
“It has been relentless so I am looking forward to seeing my kids before they go back to school and the lads will have a couple of days off to relax.”
