It appears like Jason Kelce is reaching a turning point in his NFL career.
The veteran center for the Eagles, who has been the subject of retirement rumors since Philadelphia’s shocking first-round playoff exit in January, stoked such rumors this past weekend while interacting with Birds supporters at the Orlando 2024 Pro Bowl.
A voice can be heard pleading with 36-year-old Kelce not to retire for the love of football in a TikTok video that @rossitakes uploaded.
The 13-year veteran looked to add, “I’m going to try not to,” while putting his head down.
After the Eagles lost six of their final seven games after a 10-1 start, one of the major offseason stories is Kelce’s NFL future.
According to reports, Kelce announced his retirement to his teammates in the locker room following Philadelphia’s Jan. 15 wild-card defeat to the Buccaneers.
Later, the All-Pro center clarified on his co-hosting “New Heights” podcast with his younger brother, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, that he will make an announcement about his future intentions when he has had time to thoroughly digest the wild-card loss.
During the Super Bowl Opening Night festivities in Las Vegas on Monday, Travis offered his thoughts on his brother’s condition. The Chiefs, the defending champions, will play the 49ers in the big game on February 11.
Travis said to 11-year-old reporter Jeremiah Fennell, “I’ll tell you what, I think it’s still up in the air whether or not he’s going to continue playing football.”
The 34-year-old tight end said, “I think he’s got some football left in him,” in response to the question of whether his older brother would participate in the Eagles’ international game in Brazil the following season.
Kelce said in March of last year that he would “return for another year after talking it over with my wife [Kylie Kelce] and many other friends and family.” Kelce is scheduled to become a free agency next month.
Kelce posted on X at the time, saying, “I have given it a lot of consideration as to whether it makes sense to play another season. I appreciate all of my fans and critics for keeping me going; I ain’t f-king done yet!
