JUST IN: world class star directly speaks out on January transfer links with Celtic fc
Celtic found themselves searching for a striker during the January transfer window as Brendan Rodgers sought support for Kyogo Furuhashi.
Hyeongyu Oh and Daizen Maeda were involved in the AFC Asian Cup for the entirety of January, leaving the 29-year-old as his sole offensive option.
Rodgers eventually settled on Republic of Ireland international Adam Idah, who arrived from Norwich City on deadline day.
The 22-year-old has taken to life at Parkhead like a duck to water, registering two goals and an assist in his first couple of appearances for the Bhoys.
Nevertheless, several other names were linked with Celtic over the course of the month, including the likes of Sydney van Hooijdonk, Mathias Kvistgaarden and Lawrence Shankland.
Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski was also believed to be on the Hoops’ radar, with reports back in December claiming the Bhoys were keen to bring him to Glasgow after scouting him intensely [Scottish Sun].
Of course, the North Macedonia international eventually stayed at Pittodrie and has since scored against Celtic and Rangers in back-to-back fixtures [National].
Bojan Miovski directly addresses Celtic transfer links
Miovski has become a household name north of the border due to his goalscoring exploits, as he has racked up 20 strikes and four assists in 35 appearances this term [Transfermarkt].
In a recent interview, the 24-year-old has indicated that he is aware of previous links to Celtic and other sides as he continues to shine at Pittodrie.
Speaking to Serbian media via Football Scotland, he stated: “I am happy to be linked with clubs like Celtic, Rangers and Southampton because that means I’m making progress.
“I still have two years left on my contract in Aberdeen; I am focused on the club and on winning a place in Europe like last year. “What the future will bring?…I don’t know. Now I am focused only on my club and that is my goal, to be as good as possible.
He later added: “Celtic and Rangers are one thing, Aberdeen is another – our club signs young players for less money and gives everyone a chance. It is a historic club; just look at the fact that the most trophy-winning club in Europe, Real Madrid, last lost a European final to Aberdeen.”
Despite speculation surrounding his future, Miovski seems to be focused on the immediate task of trying to elevate Aberdeen’s standing in the Scottish Premiership.
The Stip-born man has been in electric form this term, and it remains to be seen if Celtic will regret not pushing harder to land his signature.
Returning to the table in the summer could be an option for Rodgers to consider, though his side wouldn’t be alone in admiring his talent.
