A standing ovation greets another Reading FC favorite who is “overwhelmed” by his homecoming.
Former Reading player Garath McCleary, who was replaced in yesterday’s 2-1 victory for Wycombe Wanderers, earned a standing ovation and later said he is “genuinely overwhelmed.”
The 36-year-old McCleary played with the Royals for eight years, making over 250 appearances. He is most known for scoring in the team’s first FA Cup semifinal appearance in 127 years.
Even though the winger left in 2020 because to the Covid-19 epidemic, this was his first visit back to RG2.
After he began and played for more than 70 minutes, there were thunderous chanting for his name as he left the field from all four corners of the SCL Stadium.

The veteran took care to salute both the 1,600 traveling supporters and Royals fans in their uniform at the SCL Stadium.
Following the event, McCleary posted on social media, saying, “Take the result away, what I saw today I was genuinely overwhelmed.” Perhaps that was the necessary bit of closure from the Covid year. I lived in this area for eight years. For the remainder of the season, I thank you and wish you all the best of luck.”
