Texas P.J. Locke Signs New Deal With Denver Broncos
On Saturday, former Texas Longhorn PJ Locke’s next step of his NFL career was revealed in a report by NFL insider Ian Rapoport. The report revealed that Broncos and Locke agreed to a two-year deal that would pay him seven million dollars guaranteed, with a chance to earn up to nine. Locke has been with the Broncos since 2019 after a brief stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who signed him as an undrafted free agent.

After landing with the Broncos as a rookie, Locke has stuck around and been quite productive for Denver. He was originally cut and signed to the practice squad for Denver, but got the call ahead of their 2019 Week 1 game. Unfortunately, he was sent back to the practice squad shortly after, but was signed to the active roster in 2020 and has been a mainstay since. A lot of his success and the reason that he was able to stick around was his impact on special teams. He will have a chance to be the full-time starter for the Broncos in 2024, as both of their starting safeties in Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson, are no longer with the team. Over the course of his career thus far, he has recorded 84 total tackles, three sacks, four forced fumbles, six pass deflections, and one career interception which he secured in game-sealing fashion against the Green Bay Packers this past season.

During his time at Texas, Locke played like he was constantly being shot out of a cannon, and has clearly found his niche in the NFL. 2024 is expected to be his best year yet.
