Charlton: The Man United trade was extremely upsetting for both the team and its supporters – View

Davide Petrucci was a disastrous loan signing for Charlton Athletic in 2014, a move the supporters now rue.

When Davide Petrucci joined Manchester United in 2008, he was a highly regarded young player who was headed for great things.

When United signed the 16-year-old from the Italian team, they infuriated Roma supporters by offering them a compensation package estimated to be approximately £200,000.

Before joining the Red Devils, the midfielder scored 14 goals in 19 games for Roma’s junior team. With the signing, Sir Alex Ferguson’s team appeared to have acquired a potential star.

Petrucci never played for the Red Devils and had many failed loans out of the organization, despite being a well-known signing at the time.

His difficulties off the field, which included a brawl with Portuguese winger Nani on the training field, probably did little to improve his prospects of breaking through at Old Trafford. He struggled to obtain playing time at United.

Following his impressive performances for the United youth teams, he was granted a loan transfer to Peterborough United in January 2013. However, his stint there was short-lived, as he only made four appearances for the Posh.

In the summer of 2013, he managed to earn a loan transfer to Royal Antwerp in Belgium for the following season.
