A Millwall man is poised to return to Championship management.

Following the dismissal of Wayne Rooney, permanent manager Tony Mowbray is recuperating from a medical condition

The Blues have been coached by Mowbray’s assistant Mark Venus, who has only managed one point in six games.

Birmingham is out of the bottom three on goal differential and is 21st in the Championship standings.

Since departing Millwall in October 2023, following four years as the club’s manager in South London, Rowett has not been employed.

The fifty-year-old led Birmingham 106 times in his initial tenure, which ran from October 2014 to December 2016.

In the close race at the bottom of the Championship, Birmingham is four points below the Lions.
