Darragh MacAnthony, chairman of Peterborough United, has stated that he asked about signing Carlisle United goalkeeper Harry Lewis while he was still with Bradford City.
The Posh have had a good season under head coach Darren Ferguson and are presently 10 points clear of seventh place, implying that a finish in the play-offs is likely before the conclusion of the season. Nonetheless, Fergie’s players are still in contention for the top two, trailing Derby County by seven points with a game in hand.
Peterborough may not have the largest budget in England’s third division, but MacAnthony has done well to build a side capable of contending with Portsmouth, Derby, and Bolton Wanderers. In fact, according to Transfermarkt, Ferguson’s side has the highest market value in League One, at £17.49 million.
The club’s transfer business in recent seasons has been commendable. Kwame Poku, Ephron Mason-Clark, and Ronnie Edwards were signed as bright young players with a high ceiling who will either depart or be sold for large sums of money in the future.
Speaking on The Hard Truth Podcast recently, the chairman discussed another player who Peterborough United inquired about during the summer transfer window: goalkeeper Harry Lewis. MacAnthony also explained why a deal with Lewis’ former club Bradford City fell through [quoted via the Peterborough Telegraph]:
