“The biggest takeaway is that you can see the arm talent on the film and you can see it there in person.”
Most draft analysts predict the Chicago Bears will choose former USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the first choice in the upcoming 2024 NFL draft. On Tuesday, Bears head coach Matt Ebeflus enthused about a recent meeting with Williams at his Pro Day, adding to the notion.
Eberflus told Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times that he was impressed with Williams’ Pro Day performance.
“The biggest takeaway is that you can see the arm talent on the film and you can see it there in person,” Eberflus told Finley over e-mail. “I enjoyed seeing how the athletes interacted with one another. You can see it, and we spoke with everyone on the crew. We interviewed them at both the Senior Bowl and Pro Day. We spoke with those players during the event, and you can see they love and appreciate him — and what he’s brought to the program.”
He subsequently described a dinner he had with Williams and his USC colleagues as “great,” which is noteworthy since it relates to Williams’ personality.
Williams has been often criticized as a prospect, both as a player and as a person outside the football field. But it appears that the Bears and Eberflus have rapidly fallen in love with Williams.
Williams is scheduled to visit with the Bears again next week, as the NFL Draft approaches. So it will be fascinating to watch if any further information comes from that meeting.
