With all of the awful injuries, it’s easy to forget that Sheffield United forward Rhian Brewster was once one of the finest wonderkids in English football, playing for Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp, the German manager who will leave Anfield in the summer, was the first to spot Brewster, who was in the Chelsea academy at the time. In fact, Brewster was one of the first players Klopp identified during his time at Liverpool.
Klopp granted Liverpool the go-ahead to recruit Brewster from Chelsea for £250,000 back in 2015.
According to The Athletic, Brewster played 50 minutes for Liverpool’s under-16 squad before coming in as a replacement for the under-18s. He piqued Klopp’s interest with a lively 10-minute performance against Stoke City.
Brewster was then loaned out to Swansea City for the 2019/20 season, where he scored 11 goals in 22 appearances. That performance encouraged Sheffield United to recruit the forward in the summer of 2020.
Will Sheffield United ever see the best of Rhian Brewster?
Brewster became United’s record signing for £18 million, which rose to £23.5 million. Unfortunately, the relocation has not worked out well. Four seasons into his Blades career, the now 23-year-old has only five goals for the club.
Rhian Brewster’s Sheffield United career has been plagued by soft tissue injuries, which have slowed his advancement severely. According to Transfermarkt, the attacker missed 75 games for United between the 21/22 and 22/23 seasons. Unfortunately, more injuries have occurred since then.
