Although he did not start the season properly, Sheffield United has clearly missed seasoned defender John Egan this season.
The 31-year-old Irish centre-back played just six Premier League games before suffering an achilles injury away at West Ham United. And it’s unlikely he’ll feature again this season.
Blades manager Chris Wilder told The Star on Thursday afternoon: “John Egan has started out on the turf today, doing early early rehabilitation. We can’t get too enthusiastic about John returning before the conclusion of the season because I don’t believe he will.”
Wilder said that losing players with character and ability early in the season, such as Egan and Chris Basham, for a lengthy period of time was a significant blow to Sheffield United.
Sheffield United has severely missed John Egan this season.
While the Irishman may have had a slow start to the season, he has definitely been a miss. Egan has played a significant role in the Blades’ success since joining them in the 2018/19 Championship season.
For years, supporters have praised Egan for his availability. In his previous five league seasons for United, the seasoned defender appeared in 94% of the team’s league games, demonstrating his reliability.
