Being a football lover in April is thrilling since the 2024 NFL Draft is almost approaching. The Kansas City Chiefs have seven draft selections this year to address the few gaps they have to fill. It will take some time to see if the reigning Super Bowl Champions can assemble the perfect team to attempt a three-peat.
However, the Chiefs can still acquire outside assistance even if the draft is the main emphasis of the league. According to Spotrac, Kansas City general manager Brett Veach still has over $24.6 million to work with and a number of notable free players available.
In light of that, the Chiefs have four more unsigned free agents to choose from until the 2024 NFL Draft.
1. Wide receiver Tyler Boyd
The acquisition of All-Pro wideout Stefon Diggs by the Houston Texans from the Buffalo Bills last week caused a stir in the AFC. Diggs’ arrival will probably help the Texans, who were already among the league’s best emerging teams, surpass their previous level of performance.
In light of Houston’s move, Kansas City needs to find a way to be competitive in the AFC, which is why they ought to go after free-agent wide receiver Tyler Boyd.
Boyd is just the kind of wide receiver the Chiefs need after eight (mostly) successful seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. The former Pittsburgh product has accumulated 6,000 yards and 31 touchdowns on 513 catches in 120 games, giving him a plethora of experience. He’s never been the NFL’s top receiver, but he does have two 1,000-yard seasons under his belt.
Boyd may be beyond his peak, but he gets a lot of energy from playing with Patrick Mahomes. I could see Boyd hitting 600–800 yards a year with Mahomes as quarterback, if the 29-year-old wide out was putting up those kinds of numbers with Joe Burrow during the previous four seasons.
The Chiefs should go for Boyd because they don’t really have a lot of solid wide receiver options aside from Marquise Brown.
