A Premier League player has now disclosed that he was turned down for a trial at Sunderland.
Top young players are being produced by Sunderland and its Academy of Light, and at a faster rate too.
Tom Watson appears to be the next rising talent to join the first team this season after players like Dan Neil, Anthony Patterson, Chris Rigg, and others who came before him.
Under Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and sports director Kristjaan Speakman, the club is firmly focused on youth recruiting, development, and advancement.
Sunderland’s previous transfer approach was wildly inconsistent.
Sunderland’s Premier League team
£77 million A Premier League player claims that he ‘went to Sunderland’ for an audition but was rejected by the Black Cats.
Seven years have passed since Sunderland played in the Premier League, and a lot has undoubtedly changed.
The Black Cats made wise purchases during their most recent Premier League campaign, investing over £20 million on Didier Ndong and wisely on players like Paddy McNair and Papi Djilobodji.
Since then, Sunderland has returned to the Football League with its share of money, although they have done so on busts like Will Grigg.
Instead of making large purchases at this time, the Wearsiders want to acquire younger players at lower costs in order to develop them into important assets in the transfer market.
However, it appears that they previously passed over a player who is currently valued at £77 million.
Ebere Eze discloses a prior trial in Sunderland
2020 saw Ebere Eze go from QPR to Crystal Palace at a rumored £20 million.
Eze has already made 107 Premier League appearances in his fourth season at Selhurst Park, tallying 22 goals and 17 assists.
He scored the game-winning goal for Palace last weekend when they defeated Liverpool 1-0.
The 25-year-old was connected to Manchester City last month, and it’s said that the club is willing to pay up to £77 million for the Englishman.
Additionally, Eze talked about his football career in a recent interview, revealing that he was turned down by many organizations before being given a shot by QPR in 2016.
Eze stated:
“I choose to support Arsenal.” I played there for maybe five years before being let go, then I spent around two and a half years at Fulham before being let go again, then I spent half a year at Reading before being let go again. After that, I traveled to Millwall for my scholar, where I stayed for two years until being released. went on trial for a few teams, then to Bristol City and Sunderland. was freed. Not released, exactly, but didn’t enter.
What might have been for the Black Cats and Ebere Eze
Many clubs were not able to get Eze.
Not only will Sunderland regret not giving him an opportunity, but a number of other teams will also be disappointed; QPR and now Palace are the fortunate suitors.
Though Sunderland still has some key assets, the Eagles appear to be very close to a significant payoff in terms of Eze.
Jack Clarke is expected to make a significant profit for the team this summer and has the potential to succeed Eze at Palace.
Additionally, there appears to be a belief that, given the opportunity, a young Eze would be given a shot at Sunderland and most likely make it into the first team.
The Black Cats must make sure they don’t let any more stars like Eze escape their control and must do every effort to keep any stars they do find, like Rigg, for example.
