Unexpected signing for Hull City with high hopes for a successful future under Liam Rosenior

The Tigers star is no stranger to the team, despite his recent great play.

When Abdus Omur played against the Tigers in a friendly during the World Cup break in November 2022, he said he could never have dreamed he would end up joining Hull City.

A few weeks after Liam Rosenior took over as manager when Shota Arveladze was fired, the Turkish international was part of the side that drew 1-1 versus City at the Regnum Carya resort in Antalya. After completing a permanent transfer from Trabzonspor late in the January transfer window, Omur is now a player for City and Rosenior is his manager, having been there for little over a year.

The little playmaker has drawn attention since he first established himself as a mainstay in Rosenior’s squad. On Saturday, he put on another outstanding performance as City defeated QPR 3-0 to maintain their slim chances of qualifying for the playoffs.

“Yes, I recall the match; I believe it ended in a 1-1 draw,” Omur says to Hull Live. “It was a wonderful game, and after it was over, Ozan and I chatted and joked about. I asked him how England was going, and he told me it was great and everyone was doing well. Life is like this, however I could not have imagined going to Hull after that game.”

In response to Rosenior’s laudatory remarks on Omur’s performance in recent weeks, the 24-year-old has complimented the Tigers head coach for going into endless detail about how he sees Omur fitting in.

“We hold great regard for this youthful gaffer, who is just, I believe, 39 years old. At that age, several football players in Turkey are still active,” Omur went on. “He is revered by everybody and is the gaffer. When we completed your study against us, the Leicester coach (Enzo Maresca) stated, “We respect them so much because they have a system, they have tried to keep the ball,” according to Yunis Akgun, who I met with after the Leicester game. They have players of distinction.

“He showed me his analysis when I first arrived and how you and I would play. He wants to hold onto the ball because of our system. He’s still young, and I hope he has a successful career in the future.”
