The Lions might easily unite with the Cardinals and Commanders in a draft exchange due to their historical links.
It’s intriguing that Zierlein brought up the Commanders and Cardinals in particular while discussing the Lions’ draft trade prospects
The Cardinals’ assistant general manager is Dave Sears. Prior to that, from 2019 to 2022, he served as the Lions’ director of college scouting. The Lions and Cardinals completed two transactions during the previous draft, which happened to be the same time that Sears was hired in Arizona.
Before Lance Newmark joined the Commanders as their deputy general manager this summer, he worked for the Lions for 26 seasons in the player personnel department. The most intriguing aspect of the Washington perspective is that they have five overall selections, ranging from No. 36 to No. 100. Picks 36 and 100 are equal to selection 29 on at least one draft pick value chart, the “Rich Hill” version.
This year’s pre-draft conjecture will soon come to an end. However, if Holmes is prepared to go past the first round and they wish to advance, the Commanders and Cardinals—assuming that even becomes a thing—appear to be the best trade partners.
