Dan James is now a major injury “concern,” according to Daniel Farke, ahead of Leeds United’s trip to QPR.
After Leeds United’s victory against Middlesbrough last night, Daniel Farke provided a concerning update on the status of one of his star players.
With a thrilling 4-3 victory at the Riverside, where they were had to withstand tremendous pressure in stoppage time, the Whites got back on track.
Isaiah Jones’ goal for Boro gave them the lead early on, but goals from Crysencio Summerville and Patrick Bamford from Leeds swiftly turned the tide of the match.
After that, Emmanuel Latte Lath leveled the score, but Willy Gnonto’s goal, which came after he pounced onto a Summerville through pass that was just waiting to be delivered through, put Leeds ahead at the half.
Just after the half-hour mark, Summerville appeared to have secured all three points with a spectacular goal, but Leeds survived a suspenseful finale thanks to an outstanding header from Latte Lath.
James’s alarming injury report from Farke follows Leeds’ victory
However, not everything went well for Leeds yesterday night as replacement Dan James appeared to have a nasty injury.
After a challenge along the right side that trapped his core and ribcage, James, who had only entered the game in the last ten minutes, was hardly able to move during stoppage time.
The 26-year-old has shown himself to be a capable super sub for Leeds in recent months, but his availability is now in question due to the short turnaround until Friday’s trip to QPR.
In his post-match news conference, Farke stated that while Joe Rodon is well despite his calf being held, his Welsh teammate is the subject of a far “bigger concern.”
“Just a blow to Joe Rodon’s calf, not so much. Daniel James should be more concerned since it may affect his core muscle. If there is a serious injury, bad news.
James’s injury may provide room for Jaidon Anthony.
Jaidon Anthony’s loan at Leeds appears to be ending, and he will likely return to Bournemouth, although he may get an opportunity in the coming weeks.
Despite Anthony’s recent underutilization—he is essentially Farke’s fourth-choice winger—he has demonstrated his abilities in a few games, including one at Chelsea.
Though he won’t be beating out Summerville or Gnonto in the starting lineup, Farke may now turn to him off the bench in the absence of James.
