Acun Ilıcalı, the owner of Hull City, still wants to sign Fenerbahçe’s Miha Zajc, who he targeted when he initially acquired the club.
The Hull owner has been discussing with Sport Klub, as conveyed by Yeniakit, about purchasing Slovenian club Maribor.
The Turkish investor acquired the Tigers from the Allam family in 2022, hoping to return to sport after a brief stint with Fortuna Sittard.
He added Shelbourne FC to his group last year and is now looking at Maribor, whom he feels will be an excellent match for the network he is building.
His impact at Hull has been seen since day one, with the club adopting a strong Turkish identity under his leadership, notably in the playing team, where numerous Turkish players have been signed in the previous two years.
For example, Allahyar Sayyadmanesh, Doğukan Sinik, and Ozan Tufan came in the 2022/23 season, while Abdülkadir Ömür joined last summer.
However, it appears that Ilicali’s original aim was from Slovenia, where his newest team is based, and he hasn’t given up hope of acquiring him.
“When I took over Hull City, my first target was Zajc, but unfortunately he decided to stay in Fenerbahçe,” said the former Liverpool player.
“I’m a little lucky since I also support Fenerbahçe. Let’s see what occurs in the future.
“When we take the step of implementing our concept in Slovenia with Slovenian players, he may wish to visit Maribor. “We’re always interested in him in Hull.”
