Mateusz Klich tweets fantastic message to Leeds United fans before Ipswich face Coventry City.
Mateusz Klich sent a fantastic message to Leeds United supporters on X this afternoon, before of Tuesday night’s match between Ipswich Town and Coventry City.
Leeds’ prospects of automatic promotion have faded following a 4-0 loss to QPR last week. The Whites are still in second position, but Daniel Farke’s team appears to be on the verge of being overtaken by Ipswich.
That may be tonight, as Kieran McKenna’s side uses up their game advantage over Leeds. They face a Coventry team that made the FA Cup semi-finals, which is why Tuesday night’s game was delayed.
With Leeds and Ipswich tied on points, anything other than a defeat would propel Ipswich over Leeds. A point moves the chase for second into the season’s final day, when Leeds visit Southampton.
Ipswich’s win very likely guarantees promotion, with only a draw against a Huddersfield team that is not mathematically down but requires a 15-goal swing and a win to avoid relegation.
For Leeds fans, tonight can only conclude with one result: a Coventry victory. That is why Leeds legend Klich took to Twitter and sent a great five-word greeting to fans before of the game.
Klich demonstrates Leeds allegiance with a superb Coventry post.
The DC United midfielder left Elland Road in January 2023 after being used sparingly by Jesse Marsch during the first half of the 22-23 season. Klich has now expressed his disdain for the American management.
Across the pond, Klich has performed admirably for DC, with Christian Benteke and other familiar faces. However, Klich’s affection for Leeds United persists, as seen by his most recent post on X.
The Poland star tweeted “All Coventry Aren’t We? #MOT”, a spin on the famous Leeds hymn. The Whites and Klich will be hopeful that Mark Robins’ team can do Leeds a favour.
Do Leeds truly have a chance of finishing second?
It appears improbable at this point. Even if Ipswich did not win today, a draw would suffice before facing a Huddersfield team that they are anticipated to easily defeat on Saturday afternoon.
If Leeds want to move up into the top two, Coventry must win tonight. A point still gives Ipswich and McKenna an edge. Coventry are talented, but have fallen off since the FA Cup semi-final.
Ipswich might be without assist machine and former Leeds defender Leif Davis, who has contributed 21 goals this season. They are undeniably weaker without the marauding left-back, but is this sufficient?
Leeds United have one more Championship game to play, and it may be the most significant of the season if Daniel Farke’s team can reclaim second place.
Last Friday’s 4-0 defeat to QPR was disastrous in terms of both performance and outcome, as the Whites were thrashed in a game they were expected to win, giving Ipswich the lead in the chase for second.
Both Leeds and Ipswich have 90 points, with Farke’s side leading on goal difference but Ipswich having a game in hand. On Tuesday evening, the Tractor Boys face FA Cup semi-finalists Coventry.
Farke must make changes following his team’s setback last weekend. It was a dismal performance, with so many of his top players suffering when they hadn’t let him down throughout the 2023-24 season.
One of those players was Ilia Gruev, who performed much below the expectations he had set for himself since joining the team in January. Don Goodman claimed Gruev was “too slow” to stop QPR’s second goal of four.
Below, we examine at three changes Farke must make to his squad for Saturday’s game against Southampton.
