Newcastle United Make A Decision On Stadium Move Or St James’ Park Redevelopment – Report
Newcastle United fans have been anxiously awaiting word on what would happen in terms of a much larger capacity stadium.
Move to another area or expand St James’ Park.
According to a recent ‘exclusive’ from The Telegraph, the decision has already been made.
Newcastle United’s owners decided to expand St James’ Park.
According to the Telegraph (see below), after conducting a feasibility analysis, it was determined that expanding the present stadium was the best option.
It will be interesting to see when/if something is formally stated, what the strategy will be, and, more importantly, what sort of timetable we may expect.
When the lease on the property opposite the Gallowgate End was bought when Sir John Hall was in charge, the designs suggested a potential capacity of 60,000 or more.
With time and mechanical skill, the potential enhanced capacity of St James’ Park may now be substantially greater than 60,000. Not to mention the money to support it.
Even this research states that nothing is fixed in stone, so we cannot assume that extending St James’ Park will happen.
However, I believe The Telegraph has received some evidence confirming that this is the direction the Newcastle United owners want to go.
What I can’t believe is that we are now 31 months after the Newcastle United takeover (and over five years since the consortium began making plans and attempting to buy the football club), and only now has a feasibility study been conducted on the possibility of expanding St James’ Park and/or alternative locations.
I believe that long before the takeover, the current Newcastle United owners will have commissioned a feasibility study before agreeing to acquire the club. This was always going to be an important factor if Newcastle United was to reach its full potential.
