Former Sunderland loan guy might potentially secure an eight-figure Premier League deal.
A former Sunderland loanee might now make an eight-figure Premier League move this summer.
Over the years, Sunderland has had several good loan players.
Especially in recent years, with Manchester United’s Amad Diallo the best of the lot.
Last season, the Ivorian scored 14 goals and helped three in 39 Championship matches for the Black Cats, helping them finish in the top six.
Ellis Simms was also a standout for Sunderland last season, but only in the early stages.
The 23-year-old scored seven goals in 17 Championship games for the Black Cats before being recalled by Everton.
He captured supporters’ hearts, and Sunderland attempted valiantly to re-sign him when he went on to play as a backup for the Toffees.
However, after joining Coventry City on a permanent basis last summer, he has already scored 13 goals in 45 Championship appearances, encouraging Premier League teams to take note.
Former Sunderland player Ellis Simms might secure an eight-figure Premier League move.
Simms’ impressive play for Coventry City this season has sparked Premier League interest ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to The Sun, Brentford and Bournemouth are both interested in Simms, with the Bees expected to move Ivan Toney this summer and the Cherries looking into Dom Solanke.
According to the same story, Coventry City paid Everton an initial £3.5 million price for Simms, which may rise to £5 million.
If Mark Robins’ team sells Simms this summer, they will receive at least double what they spent for him, which means he may fetch up to £10 million.
A clear message for Sunderland and Kristjaan Speakman.
Simms has starred for Sunderland, Coventry City, and is now the target of a few of Premier League teams, indicating that Sunderland was searching in the correct areas.
This season, they may have benefited greatly from having Simms return on a permanent basis.
It proved to be too costly for the Black Cats, however.
However, Kristjaan Speakman and his team should be optimistic that the strategies they used to uncover Simms, Diallo, and Ross Stewart will serve them well this summer.
Although the additions of Nazariy Rusyn and Luis Hemir have raised some concerns, Sunderland’s recruiting under Speakman has been quite excellent overall.
This summer, a new striker is sorely needed, preferably one capable of scoring at Championship level.
This Saturday, the Black Cats will play Sheffield Wednesday at the Stadium of Light to cap their season.
