Sunderland competes with QPR to land ‘ideal’ transfer for Arsenal A talented youngster has a deal that might be considered.
QPR challenging Sunderland to win ‘perfect’ transfer for ex-Arsenal teenager.
QPR, Sunderland, and Brentford have all been linked with a free move for the out-of-contract player.
QPR will compete with Premier League side Brentford for Leicester City academy striker Amani Richards this summer, as the 19-year-old is out of contract at the King Power Stadium.
According to the Evening Standard, the prospect of a free move for the bright kid piqued the curiosity of the Rs and the Bees. Richards was born in London and can play as a striker or right winger, having trained at Chelsea and Arsenal before joining the Foxes.
It looks to be a sensible decision for Marti Cifuentes and QPR. With right winger Chris Willock out of contract at Loftus Road this summer, the head coach is yet to decide who of Sinclair Armstrong, Lyndon Dykes, and Michael Frey is the best option up front. The signing of Richards may be great for the club.
Sunderland is also mentioned as a prospective bidder, along with teams from Germany, Belgium, and Denmark, all enticed by the prospect of bringing in the youthful talent without paying a transfer price.
Richards won the Leicester City Academy Player of the Season Award in 2023 after scoring more than 20 goals in all competitions, but he has yet to sign a new contract due to a desire to play first-team football. Leicester City have now confirmed promotion back to the Premier League, which may push the teenager down the pecking order depending on summer arrivals.
QPR manager Cifuentes has been rather quiet on summer transfer ambitions, stating that he will focus on enjoying Friday’s victory against Leeds United when questioned about the months ahead after the game. It was suggested to the coach that such a rousing performance against the Whites may help any transfer deals.
He said, “When I first came here, I said that when we win football games, which is not every weekend, we should celebrate.” That’s what I’m going to do: celebrate tonight’s triumph, which means a lot.
“If you ask me about the future, we’ll sit down, analyze, and be modest. It’s easy to get carried away, and there’s plenty more work to be done in the future. I believe we must stay modest and recognize that there are many areas where we can improve.”
