Pompey are chasing Bristol Rovers’ goalscoring midfielder Antony Evans as their Championship ambitions get underway.

According to The News, the Blues are interested in the 25-year-old with an eye for the spectacular as they prepare for a summer revamp.

Pompey know they need to add forward-thinking talent to their roster when they return to the second division after a 12-year sabbatical.

And Evans fits the description following a fantastic season with their League One opponents, during which his reputation for bringing goal danger to the table skyrocketed.

Despite his club ending in the bottom half of the standings, the former Everton youngster had 19 goal contributions, including 10 goals and nine assists.

One of those came in the form of his amazing free kick against Pompey in Rovers’ 2-1 victory at the Memorial Ground in December.

Evans has built a reputation for eye-catching finishes, straight running, and the ability to finish with either foot throughout his four years with the Gas.

As a result of his strong success this season, he was voted Bristol Rovers player of the season, having made 52 appearances for Matt Taylor’s side.

Evans would fetch a price with a year left on his current contract, with Rovers aware they risk losing the former Blackpool loanee for free this time next year.

Over the last season, the Scouser has demonstrated his flexibility by playing as a 10 as well as a deeper midfield term position.

Evans, like many of Pompey’s additions, looks to fit the bill in terms of being able to have an immediate effect on John Mousinho’s first team while also possibly evolving as an asset.

The Blues understand that they must enhance the quality level in Mousinho’s roster as they prepare to compete in the Championship next season.

All parts of the pitch appear to be under consideration for reinforcement, however the Pompey manager has remarked that he is generally satisfied with his current hitting options.

Mousinho has 18 players under contract and has given fresh agreements to Marlon Pack and Connor Ogilvie. Zak Swanson and Joe Morrell are still in talks after the club chose not to exercise their 12-month options.
