Moore was one of seven Lions players suspended in 2023 for breaching NFL gambling regulations. He and wide receiver Quintez Cephus were given season-long suspensions. Both players were recently reinstated, and Cephus has now signed with the Buffalo Bills.
Moore joined the Lions in 2019 as an undrafted free agent out of Ole Miss. He ended up playing an important role for the squad, especially in special teams. That job became his calling card, as he was a key member of the team’s covering and return units.
Moore had signed a one-year contract to stay with the Lions for the 2023 season before being suspended last year. However, he was freed after being suspended.
Currently, the Lions lack depth at the safety position. Kerby Joseph will be absent until training camp due to hip surgery, while Ifeatu Melifonwu will make his first start of the season. The Syracuse product had a late-season breakout after taking over for Tracy Walker.

Prior to Moore’s signing, the Lions’ only other genuine safety was Brandon Joseph, a 2023 undrafted free agent.
During the league meetings, Lions coach Dan Campbell hinted that Brian Branch may be moved from nickel cornerback to safety at some point this season.
