Officially Announced: Another Top QPR Man To Leave At The End Of Next Month.
QPR defender Aaron Drewe will leave the club when his contract ends at the end of next month, according to their official website.
QPR will release the full-back in late June, making him a free agent. He will have to examine his alternatives over the next several months as he seeks for a new home for next term.
Drewe, 23, has spent his whole career with the Championship side, rising through their academy ranks.
He told the R’s website: “There are many emotions right now. When you’ve been at the same club for most of your life, you develop bonds and relationships with the people and the club, and it becomes a part of you. But I also believe it is the appropriate moment for my career to progress.”
QPR player to depart
Drewe joined QPR at the age of nine and has been with the club for 14 years. He represented the London club at numerous youth levels as a teenager.
When non-league club Chelmsford City approached him on loan for the first time, he was given the go-ahead to go.
Later, the Londoner took on temporary positions at Oxford City and Weymouth to gain further experience.
Drewe made his senior debut for QPR in January 2022 in an FA Cup match against Rotherham United, which they won on penalties.
He made 13 first-team appearances for the Hoops, two of which were in the league last season under Marti Cifuentes.
However, the Red Sox have taken the difficult choice not to extend his contract in a trade that would most likely benefit all parties involved.
His prospects of earning a regular berth in their starting XI are poor, and leaving will allow him to start again somewhere else.
What’s next for QPR?
Drewe’s departure will free both room and cash in QPR’s squad to bring in reinforcements.
They have yet to release their retained list as they prepare for next season.
Following their vacation, the R’s will be in a bullish mindset moving into pre-season, hoping to transfer their energy from staying up into next year.
Cifuentes is a highly regarded manager who has restored the club’s sense of optimism as he seeks to instill more of his own personality in the forthcoming transfer window.
