Latest News Today: Browns Sign Another Young Talented QB Following Rookie Minicamp.
After finishing their rookie minicamp, the Cleveland Browns announced the signing of quarterback Jacob Sirmon. The Browns needed a quarterback for some of their drills, so they invited Sirmon. Evidently, they were impressed enough with him to offer him a contract, making him the team’s sixth active quarterback.
Sirmon began his collegiate career at the University of Washington, then transferred to Central Michigan before finishing at Northern Colorado. For the time being, Sirmon joins Deshaun Watson, Jameis Winston, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and Tyler Huntley.
Sirmon stands 6’4″ and weighs 235 pounds. He passed for 1,355 yards and eight touchdowns during his final season with the Bears.
Watson and DTR are now unable to practice since they are recuperating from injuries. Watson is rehabilitating his surgically repaired shoulder, while DTR is recovering from a hip injury that interrupted his first season. As a result, Winston and Huntley were the only quarterbacks who could throw effectively during the OTA sessions. Sirmon provides them with another arm and allows them to assess what the young quarterback can bring to the squad.
As their other quarterbacks recover, the Browns may find having so many quarterbacks difficult. They might just dismiss Sirmon or move on from Huntley. If Sirmon performs well enough, the Browns may consider bringing him back to the practice squad. For the time being, the Browns had an available roster slot and decided to add another option at the sport’s most essential position.
The Browns are experiencing temporary logjams in a handful of position categories. The Browns have three kickers on their roster right now: Dustin Hopkins, Cade York, and Lucas Havrisik. This might indicate that the team is satisfied with several other aspects of the team. However, if the team wishes to sign or trade for someone else, it will be simple to find a spot where they may free up room.
The Browns have also signed Ahmarean Brown, a wide receiver from South Carolina. He was supposedly one among the undrafted free agents that agreed to terms with the Browns, but he did not sign right away, missing the first day of minicamp due to a leg bandage. The team has allegedly agreed to sign Jalen Sundell, an offensive lineman from North Dakota State, as an undrafted free agent. Nothing has been revealed as to why that did not occur, or whether there was merely a delay. He did not attend the rookie minicamp.
As the Browns prepare for the next round of their OTAs, they will have five quarterbacks, three of whom are healthy enough to play.
