Marco Gabbiadini feels Alex Neil has been ‘proven correct’ regarding one thing at Sunderland.

Former Sunderland striker and current BBC analyst Marco Gabbiadini believes Alex Neil has been ‘proven correct’ regarding one issue at the club.

Neil, 42, was the man who eventually led Sunderland to promotion from League One. However, he would quit the Stadium of Light just a few weeks into the 2022/23 season.

The Scot hopped ship, taking over at Stoke City until being fired in December 2023 after winning 22 of his 66 games in command.

That compares to his record of 12 victories in 24 games as Sunderland manager, with Neil potentially laying the groundwork for Tony Mowbray to take over and supervise the ultimate top-six finish last season.

With Sunderland currently looking for their next manager, there have been frequent rumors among supporters about Neil’s return to the club.

However, the Black Cats appear to be focusing on other names, such Will Still and now Bo Svensson, who has surfaced as a fresh candidate.

Alex Neil has been ‘proven correct’ regarding Sunderland model.

Neil allegedly departed Sunderland due to a disagreement with the club’s owners about the resources he was given to rebuild the team.

According to The Athletic, Neil was informed that the Black Cats administration will prioritize young recruitment and development, whilst Neil preferred experienced players with Championship pedigree.

On Total Sport, Gabbiadini discussed Neil’s departure from the club, saying: “The difficulty that the club [Sunderland] is facing is that money talks.

“I believe Alex Neil’s concerns were not only about his personal remuneration, but also about how much the board would or would not spend.

“Actually, he’s been proven correct, hasn’t he? In some ways, this paradigm is dangerous.
