Auburn Tigers confirm departure of another top star, according to board statement.
Former Auburn linebacker Wesley Steiner, who allegedly entered the transfer portal at the end of April, has committed to and signed with Washington State, the program announced Friday night.
Steiner went to Pullman, Washington, earlier this week, according to the Washington State 247Sports website.
Steiner played four seasons at Auburn, beginning in the autumn of 2020 as a freshman and former four-star prospect. He made 86 career tackles between 2020 and 2023, including 46 in 2022.
His playing time and performance dropped dramatically in 2023, as Auburn kept both of its starting linebackers from previous season, Eugene Asante and Austin Keys. Auburn has also signed Duke transfer linebacker Dorian Mausi and is bringing in numerous freshmen, including four-star recruit Demarcus Riddick.
Steiner has one more year of eligibility.
As a result of the PAC-12’s dissolution, Washington State will join the Mountain West Conference this fall. Washington, Oregon, USC, and UCLA all joined the Big Ten. Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah are joining the Big 12. Stanford and California are headed to the ACC. Oregon State, the second significant league exit, will join the West Coast league.
