Report: Cavaliers would ask Heat for Tyler Herro and Jaime Jaquez Jr. in exchange for Donovan Mitchell.

The Miami Heat have been connected to Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell in recent speculations, and the team would have to give up some excellent players to get him.

“[Cavs owner Dan] Gilbert and Koby Altman would look for a lucrative package of multiple draft picks and one or two young players with star potential in a Mitchell trade,” said Ashish Mathur.

“For example, a source told Hoops Wire that the Cavaliers would ask for Tyler Herro and Jaime Jaquez Jr. from the Heat in Mitchell trade talks if it gets to that point.”

Herro is 24 years old and coming off an injury-plagued season in which he averaged 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 39.6 percent from deep.

The University of Kentucky product struggled as the Heat’s primary ball handler in the first round of the playoffs against the Boston Celtics, averaging 16.8 points per game on 38.5 percent shooting from the field.

He has been the subject of trade speculations for practically his entire career, and it does not appear that this will change anytime soon.

Jaquez, on the other hand, is 23 years old and has just completed his debut season in the league. He averaged 11.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game, winning All-Rookie accolades in the process.

Congratulations to Jaime Jaquez Jr. for making the All-Rookie First Team!

Herro and Jaquez were actively involved in trade talks last summer, when the Heat were looking to acquire star guard Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers.

Mitchell’s present predicament differs from that of Lillard, who actively wanted a trade to Miami. Mitchell has not yet demanded a trade out of Cleveland, telling NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski how content he is in Ohio.

The University of Louisville product is apparently more likely to stay with the Cavaliers than not. Despite this, speculations about his joining the Los Angeles Lakers and other clubs continue to circulate.

Mitchell is presently under contract for the next season and has a player option for $37.1 million for 2025-26. One has to think that he would decline that offer in favor of signing a lengthier, more lucrative contract.

Heat supporters are undoubtedly hopeful that he signs that contract with Miami.
