5 Seattle Seahawks players enter the final chance saloon in 2024.
To help Seattle return to the playoffs, these guys must have productive seasons.
The Seattle Seahawks’ 2024 season will begin only a summer from now. It won’t take too long for 12s to wait, though it may feel like an eternity. This season’s team may be more entertaining from the start due to all of the summer changes.
In other words, we’re not sure what the team will look like. The 12s have become accustomed to the same poor linebacker coverage and good receiver performance, but Seattle will have new schemes that will address the linebacker issue while also allowing the receivers to be used differently.
Even little improvements should propel the Seahawks back to the playoffs. The squad just missed making the playoffs again in 2023. To help the squad improve, the following five players must have strong seasons.
Darrell Taylor, Seattle Seahawks edge rusher
Taylor may not even make the Seahawks roster in 2024, but given that Seattle did not choose an edge rusher in the 2024 draft, Taylor looks to be destined for the team. This must be due in part to new head coach Mike MacDonald finding something in Taylor that he can shape. Otherwise, Taylor has struggled against the run throughout his career and is an unreliable pass rusher.
Taylor will have to show to Macdonald and general manager John Schneider that he can improve this season under new leadership. While he appears incapable of genuinely being effective at run support and is frequently pushed back and ran over, this might just be because he did not understand exactly what was expected of him. Taylor lacks the upper-body strength to compete with offensive linemen, but coaches may encourage him to work on his strength this offseason.
However, Taylor must also demonstrate that he can convert the new coaching style into more consistent play. He has 21.5 sacks in 49 games during his career, however he has just sacks in 20 of them. He likes to provide pressure on opposition quarterbacks in bursts, followed by stretches of games in which he cannot do much. Taylor has yet to demonstrate that he can be depended on to be a key component of Seattle’s defense.
