Newcastle United are €10 million short on signings – the club wants to avoid transfer drama with the Magpies.
Newcastle United’s pursuit of Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has been reported in both England and Spain.
On Thursday, the 23-year-old vowed that his future will be decided shortly, despite interest from Newcastle.
Journalist Nacho Sanchis stated on X, previously known as Twitter, that Newcastle have already spoken with the La Liga team and are prepared to give roughly €25 million with incentives.
Valencia is not pleased, as they have notified Eddie Howe’s side that they want €35 million to authorize the Georgia international’s move. Sanchis wonders whether the Magpies will pay the demanded sum or consider other possibilities.
Despite Mamardashvili’s suggestion that his future will be clear shortly, the writer believes this is unlikely until Newcastle makes a better offer.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Dimitrievski Stoles is expected to join the Spanish club on a free transfer, hoping to be the Georgian’s replacement. If the latter leaves, Valencia will attempt to acquire another goalkeeper on a cheap contract.
In another post on X, Sanchis claims Newcastle can sign Mamardashvili swiftly if they increase their offer.
If they return with a better offer, perhaps in August, it may be too late for Los Ches to sign a goalkeeper on the cheap. Valencia might potentially be left with just Dimitrievski and Jaume Doménech as their two goalkeepers, which is something they want to avoid.
In other words, the issue surrounding Valencia’s stoppers is complex, and the drama might be averted if Newcastle swiftly increased their bid for the Georgian by €10 million.
Despite all of this, €5 million is probably plenty.
