The Celtics now have a 3-0 lead in their series against the Indiana Pacers. If they win on Tuesday, they’ll complete the sweep and advance to the NBA Finals.

The Pacers will most likely be without standout guard Tyrese Haliburton, who worsened a hamstring injury midway through Game 2.

Porzingis’ increased rest has both advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, it’s vital to keep him as healthy as possible for the NBA Finals.

It is critical that he does not aggravate his ailment more. His arrival provides the Celtics a new dimension on both ends of the court. When he returns, he will be a key component of their rotation.

Porzingis, on the other hand, will most certainly be rusty after missing more than a month of basketball. Returning to the NBA Finals, the top level of basketball in the world, will put him under intense strain.

There isn’t enough time for him to gradually regain his fitness. The Celtics need him to perform at his peak right now.

Boston should be confident in completing its current series and being declared Eastern Conference champions. The Celtics have not needed Porzingis to dominate their current run. Things will be different in the NBA Finals, however. They’ll need his rim protection and floor space. It will also be helpful to see Al Horford face up against second units again.

However, the Celtics’ coaching staff is being careful. We’ll see if Porzingis’ rust is worth the risk in due time.
