Bradford City Signs Number Three to Acquire Another League Two Team Superstar
Callum Johnson, a defender for Mansfield Town, was snapped up by BRADFORD CITY, becoming the team’s third acquisition of the off-season.
Johnson, 27, who was born in Yarm, has signed a one-year contract after helping the Stags win promotion from League Two.
The right-back, who can also play in midfield and central defense, joins after his contract at Mansfield expired. He made 22 appearances for the Nottinghamshire team in 2023–2024.
Johnson, who attended Middlesbrough’s academy, rose to prominence at Accrington Stanley, where he played for four seasons, totaling over a century of games. In 2018, Johnson assisted Stanley in being promoted from the fourth division.
Johnson relocated to Portsmouth in 2020, where he played in 40 league games in 2020–21. The next season, he spent a loan at Fleetwood Town, then in July 2022, he made the permanent transfer to Scottish team Ross County.
January 2023 marked his arrival at Mansfield.
Johnson remarked upon joining City, “I’m excited to be here. After speaking with the management, I was certain that I wanted to sign.
“Although everyone will say the same thing, the main reason I came here was the club’s size. I’ve had success playing for large clubs in the past. In my only two complete seasons at this level, I have been promoted twice from League Two, and I want to add a third now.
