Insider Says Steelers Are ‘Putting Everything They Have’ Behind Veteran QB

The Pittsburgh Steelers may have made it to the Wild Card round of the 2024 NFL playoffs, but it was clear that they were far away from competing for a Super Bowl.

Pittsburgh hasn’t been quite itself for years now and a large part of that is due to their lack of strong quarterback play.

Kenny Pickett was considered to be the franchise’s future at the position, but his wildly inconsistent performances led to the Steelers signing Russell Wilson in free agency.

Pickett and Wilson were originally slated to compete for the starting job, but the organization signaled it was Wilson’s after they traded Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Pittsburgh also traded for Justin Fields to compete with Wilson, though by all accounts Wilson will be the starter once the 2024 NFL season kicks off.

In order for the Steelers to be successful, they need Wilson to return to form on the field and they are doing everything they can to get him back to playing high-level football, via “The Rich Eisen Show.”

“They are putting everything that they have behind Russell Wilson,” Tom Pelissero said.

Pelissero confirms that the team is doing everything it can to show the locker room that Wilson will be their quarterback for this upcoming season, putting to bed any sort of speculation that Fields will take over at some point.

However, as fans have seen before, Wilson’s poor performances in recent years have led to his benching and that is in the realm of possibilities for this year.

If Wilson can’t regain close to his star form, then Pittsburgh could be in for another tough season.
