West Brom might get a “very special” signing to transform. Thomas-Asante

West Bromwich Albion just did not have enough in the tank to beat Southampton in the Championship play-offs, but losing 3-1 over two legs to the eventual promotion winners was far from a shame.

Carlos Corberan’s men may now face a summer of upheaval in the West Midlands, with a number of contract decisions involving first-team personnel still up in the air, as well as the possibility that Corberan will leave for a different job, with Birmingham City and Burnley interested in the Spaniard.

It doesn’t have to be an uneasy off-season, though, with some continuity perhaps reassuring West Brom supporters if a permanent deal can be completed to keep this golden loanee, who is still rejected by his original club.

West Brom must examine the “very special” talent.
With Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers stating that this summer’s roster might be overhauled, Scottish source Daily Record predicts that Mikey Johnson could be one of the Hoops’ casualties upon his return from England.

West Brom would undoubtedly be first in line for Johnston if this were the case, with former Leeds United player turned football agent Ian Harte predicting with Football League World that he will be transferred on to “recoup some money” following a tough period at Celtic Park.

According to Football Transfers, Johnston’s current valuation is only £1.4 million, implying that the Baggies could get a good deal, especially after his blistering loan spell briefly gave West Brom hope of returning to the Premier League and even saw him described as “very special” by Corberan.

If re-signed, he might also revitalize Brandon Thomas-Asante over the course of a full season, after the ex-Salford City centre-forward went unnoticed for much of the season until the last few months when he was needed most.

Why will Thomas-Asante adore Mikey Johnston?
During his brief half-season with the Hawthorns, the 5’9 winger only had two assists in 20 games, with his mazey dashes forward frequently culminating in a spectacular shot.

Johnston’s eight goals in 20 games may have inspired Thomas-Asante to return to his lethal form, but he only scored three more goals in 23 more games and still finished as the Baggies’ overall top scorer.
