Top College Football Head Coach Sends 5 Words With Strong Remarks On SEC Expansion

The SEC has undoubtedly been the best college football conference over the last 15-20 years. With the arrival of the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns, the league has advanced another level.

The Sooners are joining the conference after dominating the Big 12 since its creation in 1996. Oklahoma earned 14 conference championships, just two fewer than all other teams combined. However, Oklahoma hasn’t won a conference championship since 2020.

The Texas Longhorns have the second-most Big 12 titles, with four, including last season’s victory over Oklahoma State. They also made the College Football Playoff, positioning the Longhorns to make an early impact in the SEC.

Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs have dominated the SEC in recent years. The Bulldogs have won two of the previous three conference and national titles. At the SEC spring meetings, Smart was questioned about the new arrivals, and he stated he believes they would only make the conference harder.

“It’s extremely tough,” Smart told On3. “I mean the fact that they’re in our conference, they’re further away, and they’re a strong football team.” They have a terrific state to recruit in. Both of their coaching staffs are excellent, with Sark and Brent having previous SEC experience. Brent, who plays in the ACC at Clemson, has played against SEC teams for a long time. So they’re both aware of the environment they’re entering, which we believe enhances our conference.”
Oklahoma and Texas are two of college football’s premier franchises. Smart believes that this will only assist the conference as it expands its brand farther west. While things may become more challenging in the SEC, Smart seemed to believe it was a wise decision for the conference’s long term success.
