Transfer latest: Ipswich Cool Interest In In-Demand Attacking Midfielder Linked With Portsmouth, Wigan And Peterborough
Ipswich have cooled their interest in an in-demand attacking midfielder, who has been linked with Portsmouth, Wigan, and Peterborough.
Pompey had been linked with a move for Chris Conn-Clarke, who had 23 goals and 12 assists for Altrincham last season.
Pompey are not actively chasing a transfer for Altrincham offensive midfielder Chris Conn-Clarke.
According to the News, the Blues inquired about the Northern Ireland under-21 international’s availability after a season in which the 22-year-old scored 23 goals and assisted 12 times for the National League club.
However, after testing the waters, Pompey are reported to be considering alternative possibilities as they seek to strengthen their ranks in preparation for their return to the Championship.
Head coach John Mousinho is looking to strengthen his offensive options after losing Alex Robertson, Tino Anjorin, Myles Peart-Harris, Abu Kamara, and Josh Martin following the club’s League One title triumph. However, they are not actively working on Conn-Clarke, despite the fact that the former Fleetwood man fits the profile of the player who has brought the Blues so much success under sporting director Rich Hughes.
The attacker has been the subject of considerable transfer speculation in recent weeks, with his performances for the Moss Lane club receiving plenty of praise. Pompey, Wigan, Peterborough, Ipswich, and Mansfield have all shown an interest in Altrincham’s main player, although reports said that the Hale club had turned down approaches for his services.
Wigan have also apparently cooled their interest. Meanwhile, Alty’s football director, Rob Esteva, stated that they would only take what they believed the player was worth before contemplating selling.
