In the English Football League, managers are now competing for the same position this summer.

Next season, Derby County will face the former manager of England, Derby County, as the striker left to take a role at Plymouth Argyle.

In November 2020, Rooney secured his first management position with Derby County, where he would supervise 85 games and win just 24 (28.2%).

For the 38-year-old, who had a financial drama to navigate, it was a difficult first job. In 2023, Rooney was hired by Birmingham City, but he was unable to make the move.

Rooney’s 15 games in command included just two victories. Many now believe that he was fortunate enough to sign with Plymouth Argyle, where he will play Derby County for Paul Warne’s team the following season.

The Rams may face additional former managers in the 2024–2025 Championship campaign; two former Derby County managers are now competing for the same position this summer.

Following their relegation from the Premier League under Vincent Kompany, Burnley will play in the Championship alongside Derby County the next season.

Now that Kompany has accepted the position at Bayern Munich, the Clarets will need to appoint a new manager after what appears to have been an insane summer in the dugouts.

Former Rams interim manager Liam Rosenior and Derby County manager Frank Lampard are reportedly among the final contenders for the Turf Moor position, according to TalkSPORT.

Lampard left Everton in 2023 and hasn’t been with a club since. While Rosenior led the Tigers to a 7th-place finish in the Championship the previous season, he was fired by Hull City last month.

Sunderland is also interested in Rosenior; he has supposedly had many rounds of discussions with the Black Cats, who are also looking for a new manager

Under Paul Warne, can Derby County escape relegation from the Championship?

Next season, Warne and his Derby County team will face some formidable opponents, including Luton Town and Sheffield United, two teams that will be joining the second division. Of course, Burnley will also be there.

Big names might also be in the dugout, with Rooney already back and Lampard perhaps rejoining Championship management.

However, it appears from the duo’s previous stints in management that well-known figures aren’t usually well-known managers.

An experienced player who had to earn his spot in the Championship the hard way, like Warne, could be far more qualified to handle what promises to be a very challenging Championship campaign the following year.

Having put in the necessary work in his managerial career, Warne will not be intimidated by facing the league’s elite clubs in the upcoming season.

Next season, Derby County could face a few past managers. However, Warne will only be considering the results of his own team.
