Permission to speak with Newcastle’s Target granted to Middlesbrough
Following approval to speak with the current Newcastle United youth team coach, Middlesbrough plans to add Michael Carrick’s brother, Graeme, to their coaching staff.
Bayern Munich chose Aaron Danks to be a part of Vincent Kompany’s revamped coaching staff at the Allianz Arena, forcing Boro to restructure their coaching staff.
Danks is now working for Boro as a first-team coach, and although negotiations over a possible salary are still underway, it is anticipated that the 39-year-old will be leaving for the Bundesliga this summer.
Boro decided not to name a like-for-like replacement for Danks because Jonathan Woodgate is currently engaged as a first-team coach. Instead, they want to add Graeme Carrick to work under the current coaching staff.
Graeme, who like his brother, was a West Ham academy graduate, has spent the last two years leading Newcastle’s Under-18 team under Magpies academy director Steve Harper.
Like his brother, Graeme was raised at the Wallsend Boys Club, and he led Newcastle’s youth team to eighth place in the Academy Premier League North the previous year. In the FA Youth Cup, his team was eliminated as well in the round of 32.
His vast youth-level experience is said to have played a major role in Boro’s decision to approach him about a move to Teesside, and their formal request was approved by the St. James’ Park administration. Once Carrick’s departure is finalized, Newcastle will attempt to replace him as soon as feasible.
Although Boro executives are certain they will continue to wait for the best possible offer before allowing one of their important coaching figures to go for Germany, Danks’ exit from Boro should be confirmed soon.
Bayern Munich is eager to have Kompany’s new backroom staff in place before the start of preseason training next month, so negotiations are still underway.
