This is the season when NFL clubs try to recruit players to bolster their rosters and add depth, even if those players will probably be used mostly on special teams.

The Denver Broncos took this action on Thursday in an effort to strengthen their linebacking group and add a reliable special teams player.

The former Atlanta Falcons linebacker Andre Smith is reportedly being signed by the Broncos, according to a source who spoke with Jordan Schultz.

During his 11 games with the Birds in the previous campaign, the defender had 19 tackles, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

After being selected in the seventh round by Carolina in 2018, Smith has played for five different NFL teams in the past seven seasons: Buffalo, Tennessee, Atlanta, and Carolina.

This week, at minicamp, the defender spent two days trying out for the squad and gained a spot on the field as a post-camp addition.

In his 62 NFL games, he has made one start.

Smith joins a Broncos team that has undergone a transformation to fit head coach Sean Peyton’s vision; many of the relics from past, failed regimes have left.
