QPR is thinking about signing the 25-year-old Premier League player.
With doubts surrounding the future of starting goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, QPR may need to look elsewhere for a goalkeeper this summer.
At the end of this month, his one-year contract that he signed upon coming expires, and other teams are interested in signing an experienced “keeper.”
In the unlikely event that the Bosnian moves on, the R’s will undoubtedly be ready, and according to recent sources, a possible target has surfaced.
According to Darren Witcoop’s post on X, conversations around potential Begovic replacements in the QPR starting lineup have brought up the name of Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers. He emphasizes that Travers might be the next player, but the story surrounding the former Chelsea player is not over.
Travers was called up to cover for the Cherries after a brief stint with Stoke City in the previous campaign. The 25-year-old has kept two clean sheets while starting four of the previous five Premier League games.
When Begovic’s contract expires, QPR will make sure to move quickly to find a successor if he decides to leave the team.
Joe Walsh would be the sole senior goalkeeper on the West London roster following Jordan Archer’s departure. Although he performed admirably on the last day, it doesn’t seem realistic that he will be trusted with the starting position on a regular basis.
Someone with more experience in goal, such as Travers, would then step in.
Throughout his 59 Championship games, the Irish goalie has kept 22 clean sheets. Travers, who is only 25 years old, has a strong pedigree because he has also been tested in the highest division.
He has already benefited from loans away, but it’s unclear if QPR is looking to sign a long-term contract with their Begovic heir or just a short-term one.
