The former Texas Longhorns standout Colt McCoy recently discussed the benefits backup redshirt freshman quarterback Arch Manning has brought to the team and himself by choosing to sit behind redshirt junior returner Quinn Ewers for two seasons.

“If I were a high school quarterback, my dream position would be on the field. According to the Dallas Morning News, McCoy stated, “I’d want to go play for [Sarkisian].” You should go play for that if you see his offense, play calling style, formations, mismatches, and the signals the quarterback receives prior to the ball entering his hands. I believe Manning is aware of it.

McCoy continued, “Texas benefits from Manning’s time developing on the bench.”

“No, Arch is stating that he is much at ease in this location. Everyone wants to play, but because I’m still learning and developing, I trust the system when the ball is in my hands. I’m confident with the progress I’ve made in my first two years,” McCoy remarked. “I believe he will be well-prepared for that; having a guy like that ready is undoubtedly advantageous for UT.
