A fictitious trade sends Mitch Marner to the Maple Leafs for two Golden Knights

If the Toronto Maple Leafs choose to proceed with Mitch Marner before the 2024–25 campaign begins, they may have discovered a trade partner they like.

According to those who have spoken with Marner, the Vegas Golden Knights are a potential new trade destination for him, as he disclosed during an appearance on The Leaf’s Nation podcast, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet said on Wednesday, June 12.

“Someone told me, for instance, that one of the problems with Marner is that a lot of people assume Vegas will be around him because Vegas is astute and will be around any talented player. People are speculating that Shea Theodore and Logan Thompson are connected to me, Friedman said.

Friedman pointed out that, given their track record of chasing big-name players, the Golden Knights may be contemplating Marner.

In an attempt to acquire Marner, Vegas would assemble a trade package centered on defender Shea Theodore and goalkeeper Logan Thompson.

Friedman did stress that these are theoretical arguments. As of the time of Friedman’s story, the Leafs had not received a formal trade package.
