With 23 goals, Ipswich Town gained momentum in their chase of Panathinaikos’ top player.

In their ongoing summer window pursuit of Panathinaikos forward Fotis Ioannidis, Ipswich Town now has one less team to worry about.

Ioannidis scored 23 goals in all competitions last season, which made him a target for many teams this summer.

He is a key target for Kieran McKenna, who wants to give his recently promoted Ipswich team more goals.

The Tractor Boys have allegedly made two unsuccessful bids, with their most recent offer valued at €25 million.

Sporting Lisbon has reportedly withdrawn their interest in the Greek striker, so they will have one less rival in the fight for him, according to Portuguese sports newspaper A Bola.

Earlier in the transfer window, Sporting Lisbon made Ioannidis their top priority; however, they are unwilling to pay more than €20 million.

Before agreeing to sell the striker, Panathinaikos wants to receive at least €30 million in proposals for Ioannidis.

The Portuguese powerhouses now have a restricted summer budget, therefore they will search for a less expensive striker.

Although Bologna has put in an offer for Ioannidis, it is still well short of what he is asking for.
