Jamal Lowe might make an emotional homecoming to Fratton Park next season after securing a transfer to Championship opponents.
The attacker was released by Bournemouth in the summer, and he completed his free transfer to Sheffield Wednesday today.
In fact, the Owls are his sixth club altogether and his fifth Championship team since leaving Pompey in August 2019 for an estimated £2.5 million.
Although many Fratton supporters were eager for the Blues to bring Lowe back to the south coast, it was never a financially feasible possibility.
Consequently, he was never considered by Rich Hughes in Pompey’s summer hiring spree after League One promotion.
Rather than staying in the relegation zone last season, the 29-year-old has teamed up with Wednesday, marking their sixth acquisition of the summer window.
And Lowe is expected to make a return trip to the team where he played for two and a half unforgettable years of his career, Fratton Park, on Saturday, October 26.
After joining Paul Cook’s team in January 2017 from Hampton & Richmond, Lowe established himself as a mainstay amid a surge of success in the lower leagues.
In 119 Blues games, he scored 39 goals to win the Checkatrade Trophy and the League Two championship. Under Kenny Jackett, he also advanced to the 2018–19 League One play-off semifinals.
With 39 goals in the Championship since leaving Pompey for Wigan in August 2019, Lowe has established himself as a reliable player.
