Former Duke men’s basketball player JJ Redick is the latest addition to the Los Angeles Lakers roster.
The all-time top scorer for Duke is going to become a coach in the professional ranks.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, JJ Redick will be the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. The announcement was verified by the team on June 24.
This is a four-year contract that will be Redick’s first professional or collegiate coaching experience. He spent fifteen years as an NBA player, primarily with the Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Clippers, among six other clubs. Redick was an NBA commentator for ESPN after his career ended. He, along with Mike Breen and Doris Burke, called the NBA Finals this year.
Redick won two ACC Player of the Year awards while playing for the Blue Devils, and he was named the National Player of the Year in 2006. In the Cameron Indoor Stadium’s rafters, his No. 4 jersey has been retired.
In-depth examination of the ins and outs of basketball is offered in the podcast “Mind the Game,” which Redick co-hosts with current Laker Lebron James. James, meanwhile, was supposedly not part of the hunt for a coach.
After Darwin Ham was sacked in May, the Roanoke, Virginia native will be Los Angeles’ third coach in five years. Redick is one of the active NBA coaches who formerly played basketball for Duke, along with Hawks coach Quin Snyder.
