Buffalo is reportedly interested in this top-tier veteran player for the Carolina Hurricanes.

With free agency beginning next week and the 2024 NHL Draft only two days away, NHL teams will be the focus of intense rumors. For the Buffalo Sabres, the upcoming offseason will be very important. A few prominent free agents are connected to the Sabres because of reports of a possible buyout of Jeff Skinner.

The fan base, meanwhile, is sick of witnessing their lack of interest in the players. It’s time for words to be followed by deeds. Pierre LeBrun reports that Buffalo is connected to Martin Necas, a forward with the Carolina Hurricanes, adding fuel to the Sabres rumor mill.

Looking at his numbers, the Sabres may make a wise acquisition. Necas finished with 24 goals and 29 assists in 77 games with the Hurricanes the previous season. In the 11 games he played against the New York clubs throughout the postseason, he collected nine assists and four goals.

Martin is a productive scorer who can also play center, a position Buffalo desperately needs. Necas won 34.1% of the draws he participated in in 2023–2024, according to StatMuse. Adams has stated that he hopes to bolster his third line in the offseason by adding a center. Necas may be the ideal choice for the third line center position, given Tage Thompson and Dylan Cozens are the top two centers.

The Sabres will need to make a deal in order to get Necas. The center’s $3,000,000 AAV makes him a restricted free agent. Is the eleventh overall selection a possibility? Most probable. As stated in the initial tweet, if Necas is dealt this Friday during the draft, a trade might take place.

Adams might be a key player in ending the playoff drought if he trades for Necas, while I understand that supporters are tired of the speculations and want to see action.
