Verified: Stoke City approves the Departure of the central defender
The defender that Stoke City acquired from Gillingham three years ago has gone on.

Matty Baker was sent to Newport County, a League Two team, and his time at Stoke City ended before it had really got started.

After playing on loan at Rodney Parade for half of the previous season and the entirety of the preceding one, the 21-year-old is now a regular fixture at Newport.

After joining the Potters from Gillingham in the summer of 2021, he departs the bet365 Stadium without ever playing as a senior.

In his first season with Stoke, he made 17 appearances in Premier League 2, and in his second, he was on the bench for the Championship matches against Hull and QPR in September 2022.

But a few weeks later, Newport received a loan of him. Now that he is in a position to do so, he may add to his 57 appearances for a squad that placed 18th in the fourth division the previous season. Additionally, he hopes to keep improving with Wales’ Under-21 team.

Ben Gibson, a recent addition to Stoke’s senior center back roster, came from Norwich City. Michael Rose and Ben Wilmot are also available to Steven Schumacher.
