Outside of the 49ers, Brandon Aiyuk Names Two Teams He Would Play For
For a while now, the San Francisco 49ers and standout wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk have been in contract discussions.
The two parties are at a loss as to how much to pay as Aiyuk feels he is worth more than what San Francisco has been prepared to provide up to this point. He is expected to earn $14.1 million this season and will soon be approaching the last year of his rookie deal. But Aiyuk appears to be maintaining his ground in light of what some of the other top wide receivers have been up to in the NFL.

He just finished a season in which he recorded 1,342 yards and seven scores on 75 receptions. The 49ers want Aiyuk to rejoin the squad since he played a major factor in their run to the Super Bowl the previous year. He did not take part in the offseason program during the negotiations, nor did he attend the team’s required offseason minicamp.
Aiyuk mentioned a few clubs he would play for if he were to leave San Francisco, but he is aware that he would probably stay with the 49ers. He mentioned the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Washington Commanders, the latter of which he has been connected to all summer.
“If I had to guess, I would say a Niners uniform,” Aiyuk stated in a podcast interview called “The Pivot.” Most likely a Niners outfit. Presumably a Washington Commanders uniform, if not a Niners one. Maybe a Steelers outfit, if not a Washington Commanders one.”
Aiyuk doesn’t appear to be considering leaving the 49ers in spite of this. On Friday, he told TMZ Sports that he will stay with the 49ers despite the ongoing contract disagreement.
Aiyuk will keep trying to get a long-term contract with the 49ers in order to remain with the team for the time being. San Francisco doesn’t want to lose him because he is an essential part of their attacking strategy.
The 49ers may decide to move Aiyuk if they are unable to reach a mutually beneficial arrangement, rather than take the chance of losing him for nothing when he becomes a free agent. The 49ers have demonstrated a solid use of asset management and are a rather well-run team. Though nothing is certain in the NFL until the dotted lines are signed, maybe this can be worked out.
