RELEASE: T.J. Brodie Signs Two-Year Contract with Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that they and defender T.J. Brodie have reached an agreement on a two-year deal that will have a salary budget hit of $3,750,000 and last through the 2025–2026 season.

Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson described T.J. as a “strong, two-way defenseman that can play valuable minutes in any situation.” “We’re thrilled about the impact he’ll have on our team and he brings a wealth of experience to our room.”

In 78 regular-season games with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2023–24, Brodie, 34, recorded 26 points (1G, 25A). With an average time on ice per game of 21:43, he concluded the season ranked second on the Maple Leafs. He also placed third among team blueliners with 26 points and second with 25 assists. In addition, Brodie led Toronto last season with 159 blocked shots, which is the second-highest total in his career for a single season (178; 2014–15). In the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the defenceman also made one appearance for the Maple Leafs.

Over the course of 14 NHL seasons, the 6-foot-2, 187-pound defenceman has skated in 908 regular-season games with the Calgary Flames and Toronto, accumulating 348 points (56G, 292A). Among all members of the 2008 Draft class, his 908 games played rank 13th, and his 348 points rank seventh among defenseman. Brodie has also qualified for eight Stanley Cup Playoffs and totaled 22 points (5G, 17A) in 56 playoff games over his career.

The Chatham, Ontario native was first chosen by Calgary in the 2008 NHL Draft’s fourth round (114th overall).
